Tripla H: an interview with Hannibal Stax

Triplah: Talk to me about "Seize the day"

HS: Seize the Day is the album I put together with Marco Polo distributed through Soulspazm, Fatbeats, CD Baby & soon Illadreanaline Records.

Triplah: What were some of the most important things you wanted to say with "Seize the day"?

HS: What is most important in this album is independence, showing others that independence is the way. Also to make a difference through rhyme as a positive influence.

Triplah: I waited your album from your appearance in "Moment of Truth". Why did you wait so long?

HS: The wait for me doing another album was partially due to industry politics, family & financing period. I always wanted to put my work out on my own.

Triplah: How did you link up with Marco Polo? How he affected your sound?

HS: I was introduced to Marco by DJ P.F. Cuttin. Marco had those hard hitting beats that compliments my aggressive style

Triplah: How did you get involved with Gang Starr Foundation ?

HS: DJ Tommy Hill introduced me to Guru in the late 80's, we started hanging out , going to shows and it was all history in the making ever since.

Triplah: How is your relationship with DJ Premier?

HS: Preim is like an older brother to me, all of the ups and downs of a relationship between siblings is how we are. Its good.

Triplah: Talk to me about F.A.B.I.D.

HS: FABID is a group formed by Mike Rone & myself signed to Tommy Boy Records in the early 2000"s which went out of business before we released our album. We pretty much stayed under ground after that.

Triplah: What do you think hip-hop needs these days? How will be the future of this culture?

HS: In my opinion, Hip-Hop needs more solid dedicated fans. Hip-Hop is not supported the way it use to be. The future of Hip-Hop is in the hands of the fans.

Triplah: When did you know that Hip Hop was something you wanted to do with your life?
HS:Hip Hop is not something "you do" , its something you are, it's who I am. It's how I live. I am Hip hop.

Triplah: How would you describe growing up in Brooklyn?

HS: Growing up in Brooklyn was bitter sweet. It made me who I am.

Triplah: Who are you listening to right now?
HS:I don't discriminate on any genre of music. I listen to all kinds of music. I love it, period.

Triplah: Any tips for young B-boys?
HS: For the B-Boys," Create from your heart and not what others or the machine wants."

Triplah: Next projects?

HS: Quiet as kept,, its in the works.

Triplah: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
